If you are in Malaysia and happen to see a bright pink excavator, chances are it's a Cat® 320D Medium Hydraulic Excavator. The unusual excavator was painted pink by dealer Sime Darby Industries (SDI) as part of the Cat Care program to raise awareness for cancer. It even has a name - PIXCR, which stands for Pink Excavator for Cancer Research.
Fully functional and available for rental, PIXCR was launched last Friday at a golf tournament organized by Hap Seng, a customer of Caterpillar in Malaysia. Hap Seng will be the first customer to rent the pink excavator in support of the program. Twenty percent of the proceeds from each rental will be donated to the Cancer Research Initiative Foundation (CARIF). Tractors Malaysia hopes to raise RM100,000 (approximately $32,165) for the foundation.
The year-long cancer awareness initiative will see the excavator making its rounds to rental customers in Malaysia.
