Over 300 Pieces of Cat® Equipment Working on High-Speed Rail Project

A contractor in Saudi Arabia is using over 300 pieces of Cat® equipment on a high-speed rail project. Two-hundred of those are new Cat 320D L Hydraulic Excavators.

Mohammed Ali Swailem Company (MASCO) is one of the largest contractors in Saudi Arabia. The company, founded in 1984, specializes in site development, building construction and railway projects.

In addition to providing the equipment, Cat dealer Zahid Tractor also provided technicians and parts inventory onsite.

The excavators are being used for the final phase of the project, connecting Mecca to Medina. The new rail network covers 444 kilometers and will be connected by seven stations along the route.

The railway is expected to carry 3 million passengers a year, including many Hajj and Umrah pilgrims, thus eliminating thousands of buses from the roads. The $13 billion project started in 2009 and will be completed in the fourth quarter of 2014.
