These generator sets have been re-engineered with the higher power densities requested by customers to meet increasingly challenging restrictions on capital, site size, and cost.
Rated at 1,750 ekW for 60 Hz standby applications, the Cat® 3512C offers reliable backup power from an optimally sized engine and a reduced overall footprint that delivers lower overall site preparation, transportation, installation and maintenance costs, reduced fuel consumption, and lower emissions.
“Maximising the return on investment for standby power requires customers to specify a solution that is precisely sized to balance power availability and reliability with lower costs,” said Lenaik Andrieux, general manager for the Caterpillar Large Electric Power Division. “These standby generator sets with improved power densities will allow customers to fine-tune the selection of the power they need through a compact package that can significantly reduce their costs for both the short and long term.”
Industry-Leading Power Density for Standby

The newly rated Cat 3516E offers reliable backup power from a footprint of 220.8 square feet – saving up to 12 percent installed space compared with competing generator sets of similar ratings. Certified to U.S. EPA Stationary Emergency Regulations, this reliable package is the result of the ongoing refinement of the Cat 3500 Series engine, which has demonstrated its performance and durability in hundreds of thousands of installations around the world.
The Cat 3516E can be equipped with a low- or high-voltage alternator, and uses the field-proven Cat ADEM™ A5 engine control module (ECM), which integrates all engine functions including ignition, governing, air-fuel ratio control, and engine protection.
Summa Health recently purchased five Cat® diesel generator sets for emergency services, surgeries, life support, and other acute patient care activities; data center backup; and other essential operations. The order includes 1250 kW Cat C32 diesel generator sets with superior power density that significantly decreases installed and ancillary costs through reduced overall footprints and weight.
