Caterpillar Launches Five New Low-Emissions Standby Power Nodes to Help Customers Achieve Sustainability Goals

For Worldwide Release: July 17, 2017
Release Number: EEPR0817

PEORIA, ILL. – Caterpillar Inc. today announced five new 50-Hz standby power nodes for the Cat® 3516C diesel generator set that expand Caterpillar’s ability to help customers in Western Europe and other global markets specify solutions that meet power needs and emissions targets with more precision.

Caterpillar now offers three low-NOx, 50-Hz power nodes with ratings of 2,250 kVA, 2,500 kVA and 2,750 kVA that have been designed for use in regulated emissions environments and applications. Additionally, two 50-Hz nodes with ratings of 3,000 kVA and 3,125 kVA with certification to U.S. EPA Tier 2 emissions regulations are now available.

Available now, these five new nodes supply reliable backup power from an optimally sized engine that enables lower costs for transportation, installation, maintenance and ancillary enclosures.

“To specify the optimal standby power solution, customers look to Caterpillar to meet the power need, minimize costs, and comply with emissions regulations that can vary widely from community to community,” said Lenaik Andrieux, general manager for Caterpillar’s Large Electric Power Division. “Today’s launch of five new power nodes represents Caterpillar’s continued commitment to supplying the industry’s widest range of standby power nodes that meet various levels of emissions targets.”

The Cat 3516C generator set is designed to meet the NFPA power restoration requirement for Level 1 systems and accept 100 percent block load in one step. It meets ISO 8528-5 G3 requirements for steady state and load acceptance.

These five power nodes are available with a low- or high-voltage frame alternator that enables quick load acceptance through exceptional motor starting capabilities. This feature eliminates the need to oversize the generator set due to motor starting requirements.

The Cat 3516C generator set utilizes the field-proven Cat ADEM™ A3 engine control module (ECM), which integrates all engine functions including ignition, governing, air-fuel ratio control, and engine protection.

Caterpillar is a leader in the power generation marketplace with power systems engineered to deliver unmatched durability, reliability and value. The company offers worldwide product support, with parts and service available globally through the Cat authorized service and dealer network.
