New Cat® D5R2 Dozer Features New Cab, Updated Controls, More Versatility and Efficiency

For Release in Africa/Middle East, CIS and Asia (except Japan and Korea): 2016
Release Number: 11PR16

The new Cat® D5R2 dozer features an updated cab with enhanced visibility and comfort, new controls that simplify operation, and a Variable Power Angle Tilt Blade (VPAT) option for greater versatility.

The powerful Cat C7.1 ACERT™ engine delivers a maximum net power rating of 120 kW with operating weight ranging from 16 032 - 18 504 kg. The choice of XL or LGP undercarriage configurations and a selection of blades and rear implements ensure that the D5R2 track-type tractor can be tailored to key applications. The dozer meets China Nonroad Stage III and U.S. EPA Tier 3/EU Stage IIIA equivalent emission standards.

Ease of operation, greater efficiency

The new cab, with an integrated Roll Over Protection Structure (ROPS), offers enhanced visibility and is pressurized to help reduce dust in the cab. The standard suspension seat is fully adjustable and offset 15 degrees for improved visibility to rear attachments and surroundings. The redesigned instrument panel is easier to read, and the Cat Electronic Monitoring System provides constant information about the machine’s operating condition.

A single-twist steering teller reduces operator effort and delivers more precise maneuverability in congested work areas. The integrated transmission controls allow easy directional and range shifts. Pilot-operated implement controls significantly reduce lever effort, compared with mechanical controls, and engine speed is conveniently set with a rotary throttle.

With the throttle set in its optional Auto Shift mode, the D5R2 provides two additional ground speeds. AutoShift enables the machine to automatically down shift to the most efficient gear based on load to help save fuel and increase productivity.

Performance features

A new Variable Power Angle Tilt (VPAT) blade with electro-hydraulic controls (available mid-2016) allows operators to hydraulically adjust lift, angle and tilt for more precise results. VPAT blades offer greater versatility and can be angled for easier transport.

Dedicated implement and steering pumps mean operators can count on simultaneous blade response and steering performance.

Differential Steering increases the speed of one track while slowing the other one down for exceptional turning, even with a full blade load. This provides greater maneuverability and faster cycle times, as well as better load capacity, power and speed control in soft underfoot conditions.

Cat Connect Technology

Remote monitoring with the Cat Product LinkTM/VisionLink® system, where available, helps owners manage their fleet more effectively and profitably. The optional Cat AccuGradeTM machine-control and guidance system helps operators increase productivity and accuracy by as much as 50 percent, compared with conventional grading methods.

Durability

A rugged mainframe, designed to absorb impact shock and resist twisting forces, is the foundation of the D5R2. L-Shaped push arms and a redesigned lift cylinder position place the Semi-Universal blade close to the tractor. This enhances overall balance, maneuverability, blade penetration, lateral stability and pry-out capability. Blades use high-tensile-strength steel and have an abrasion-resistant moldboard and hardened, reversible, bolt-on cutting edges. The elevated-sprocket design of the undercarriage protects major components from harsh impacts, and the modular design permits the final drives to be easily serviced.
