Cat® G3520 Fast Response Natural Gas Generator Set Earns Gold Award in Consulting-Specifying Engineer’s 2021 Product of the Year Competition

DEERFIELD, IL – Caterpillar Inc. today announced that Consulting-Specifying Engineer magazine has recognized the Cat® G3520 fast-response natural gas generator set with a Gold Award in the “Power Systems & Equipment” category in its 17th annual 2021 Product of the Year program.

Selected by the subscribers of Consulting-Specifying Engineer, the Product of the Year contest is the premier competition for new products in the HVAC, fire/life safety and plumbing systems engineering markets. The readers’ choice program was created to provide information about the top products in these fields, with Gold, Silver and Bronze awards presented in 10 different categories.

The full list of winners will appear in the December 2021 print and online editions, and they will be honored at CSE Media and Technology’s annual Engineering Awards in Manufacturing event in Chicago next year.

The Cat G3520 is the first natural gas generator set on the market rated at 2.0 and 2.5 MW to be certified by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for use in emergency and non-emergency applications. Available with options enabling NOx emissions as low as 0.5 g/bhp-hr without the need for aftertreatment, it is engineered to meet a full suite of mission-critical market standards, including quick starting and block loading capability, meeting NFPA 110 Level 1 Type 10 standards, as well as being UL 2200 listed.

The Cat G3520 generator set also features Caterpillar’s EMCP 4 generator set control system, providing engine and generator set control, protection, and monitoring. The optional EMCP 4.4 provides the ability to parallel multiple generator sets in various gas and diesel applications.

Ideal for emergency, legally required or optional standby systems, the Cat G3520 is appropriate for data centers, office buildings, retail complexes, government buildings, as well as research and industrial facilities. This product easily integrates into building management systems, with ethernet communication capabilities inherent to the control system.
