Caterpillar launches new Cat® 320D3 GC 20-Ton Excavator for the Indian customer at low price with low maintenance

Caterpillar expands its line of 20-ton hydraulic excavators for customers in India with the new Cat^® 320D3 GC model. The Cat 320D3 GC is designed for reduced fuel consumption and lower maintenance costs with the right balance of productivity features, delivering high value to customers looking for an affordable, durable and fuel-efficient machine. The new model joins the existing Cat 320D3, which delivers efficient and productive operation in medium- to heavy-duty applications.

Durable and reliable

Built to last and offering simple maintenance, the mechanical six-cylinder, 5.8-liter, diesel engine powering the 320D3 GC delivers 85kW net power. Contractors and hirers have the choice of operating in Standard or Eco power modes, allowing the new excavator to deliver fuel consumption between 11-13 liters per hour in typical earthmoving applications, lower than most machines in the market.  A new single plane cooling package design will reduce energy losses by half, while enabling cooling up to an ambient temperature of 52˚ C.

New boom and stick reinforcements with internal baffle plates deliver high strength-to-weight ratio to enhance durability. Offering 2.25- or optional 2.5-m sticks to meet various customer needs, boom and stick configurations are built for easy installation of auxiliary hydraulic lines to operate a range of work tools, increasing machine versatility. Wide profile general duty (GD) buckets, available in 0.92- and 1.0-m³ capacities, feature weld-on side cutters and additional wear plates for extended longevity and easy loading. Stick length has been optimized on the Cat 320D3 GC to improve lifting capacity, machine stability and overall productivity. The reengineered, two-stage final drive on the new excavator strikes the optimum balance between durability and tractive effort for controlled operation. Enhancements made to the track linkage improve undercarriage life.

Best in class operator comfort

A completely new cab will be offered on the 320D3 GC. The new design offers a 25% increase in glass area to improve worksite visibility. A new instrument gauge cluster provides operators with an easy view to the key information needed. A new multi-adjustable seat with integrated low effort joystick controls help to increase operator comfort. The cab is fitted with a state-of-the-art air conditioning delivering excellent cooling even during the warmest days.

Reduced maintenance

Extended service intervals for hydraulics and coolants help contractors save time and lower maintenance costs by up to 20 percent. Integrated pilot hydraulics eliminate the need for separate pilot pumps and filter for system simplicity, robustness and fuel efficiency. The optimized hydraulic system features an improved hydraulic oil filter, offering 50 percent longer life, and up to 6,000-hour hydraulic oil service interval with 12 percent less oil required. Pressure taps and S∙O∙S^SM ports offer quick and convenient access to help maximize uptime.

A new service center with grouped filters provides ground-level accessibility to most daily maintenance checks for improved safety. The excavator’s new emergency ground level switch for engine stop, antiskid service platform and cooling fan guard help to increase servicing and operating safety. Integrated handrails and hand hold offer secure entry into the cab. Laminated foam floor mats help to reduce sound levels inside the cab to protect the operator’s hearing.

The new Cat 320D3 GC now comes standard with Cat Product Link™ to increase fleet management effectiveness. Through the VisionLink^® interface, accurate, timely and useful machine information such as location, operating hours, temperatures and alerts are easily accessed by fleet managers to help increase efficiency and lower costs.
