Cargill Deicing Technology's Cayuga mine is located 701 meters (2,300 feet) under a picturesque lake in New York, USA. Getting parts and machines into the mine can be a challenging endeavor. In fact, when it's time to repair or replace large pieces of equipment, they must be dismantled above ground and then reassembled in the mine. As the Cayuga mine sought to improve the performance of its fleet of Cat® R1700G load-haul-dump loaders, Cat dealer Milton Cat developed a solution to make the mine's LHDs more productive and reliable — at around 60 percent of the cost of buying a new machine. And they did it without ever removing the machine from its underground home.
