Rosa Flora Combined Heat and Power

A LEADER IN COMBINED HEAT AND POWER

40 Acres of flowers bloom in sub-zero temperatures

Outside, the temperature hovers around -5° C. Inside the sprawling Rosa Flora complex, 40 acres of flowers bloom. It takes a lot of energy to generate the necessary heat to grow flowers year-round, and Rosa Flora, a large family-owned greenhouse operation based in Ontario, Canada keeps the flowers thriving with the aid of its own combined heat and power (CHP) system that has earned recognition from the Canadian government for innovation and efficiency.

Two Cat® G3516 and two G3520C gen sets powered by natural gas produce heat and electricity for the growing operation. More recently, two G3520C and two G3516H gen sets have joined the team. The system is 90 percent efficient in converting natural gas energy into useable heat and power.

In 2014, a massive fire destroyed 15 acres of greenhouses and the main administrative offices of Rosa Flora. Watch the video to see their incredible story.

Rosa Flora cites reliability of the Cat equipment and responsive service from Toromont Cat as the reason for their longstanding relationship. “We have maintenance technicians from Toromont who literally live around the corner and are dedicated to making sure that Rosa Flora’s generators are up and running,” says operations manager Ralph DeBoer.
