Peace And Quiet With Cat® Standby Power

Given the threat of hurricanes and severe weather, standby power is a necessity for life on the islands, and Interlink customers demand that they never be without power.

SOLUTION

Over the past five years, Interlink has selected 14 Cat® and Olympian™ generator sets from 17 to 75 kW as well as Cat Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS) to provide reliable standby power for customer residences and construction facilities.

Complete standby power systems from Caterpillar have also been selected for 26 new luxury homes under construction in the Bahia Beach Resort, located on 483 acres of a former coconut plantation in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico. Once complete, this resort/ residential community will be the first fivestar resort in Puerto Rico.

RIMCO, the local Cat Dealer in Puerto Rico, supplies the power equipment, and Interlink technicians install the units at customer sites. Once installed, RIMCO provides ongoing maintenance services for residents, which often includes routine service inspections and parts delivery to ensure the generator sets will operate when needed.

Since residents often do not wish to view the generator sets on their property, Interlink builds engine rooms with sound-attenuating padding at the back of the residences to ensure the quietest operation possible. Landscaping around the engine room further blends the power equipment into the scenery.

Each unit is equipped with Cat Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS), a critical component that provides residential customers with safety, reliability and simplified maintenance. An ATS starts the generator when a power outage occurs and breaks the connection to the primary power source. When utility power is restored, the ATS automatically transfers back to utility power and turns off the generator.

Interlink clients can enjoy island life to the fullest without worrying about the disruption caused by power outages.

“Since we began installing these standby units, our clients have not experienced an extended loss of power due to a hurricane or any other emergency,” Hernandez noted. “However, we do have occasional, unexpected interruptions in service from the local utility, and our customers can always count on their Cat and Olympian units for the power they need.”
