Alberta Newsprint Company’s decision to build its own power plant was driven by the rising cost of power from the grid. During peak periods when the price of power is high, excess power generated onsite is sold back to the grid at the higher price.
Myanmar had one of the lowest electrification rates in the world and development increased demand. A major energy crisis left millions of residents without electricity. A high-quality and high-performance power plant was needed quickly. MSP Cat and Caterpillar delivered 13 Cat CG260 gas generator sets and additional installation components. The $46.5 million project was completed on time, and the 50 MW power plant is supporting the national power grid.
