Electric Power Facilities

The Caterpillar Electric Power team is comprised of more than 4,500 employees speaking 47 different languages, working in 90 strategic locations in 15 time zones. We never stop working on improving the quality of every product we build. Our quality runs through every facility, wherever we are.

Alpharetta

The Alpharetta, Georgia, U. S. A. facility is our primary manufacturing location for global Cat® switchgear. In a power system, switchgear is the component that contains fuses or circuit breakers used to control, protect, and isolate electrical equipment. Switchgear can be used to both de-energize equipment to allow work to be done and to clear faults downstream. In this building, not only do we manufacture new switchgear, we also upgrade customers' existing switchgear. 

Griffin

The Griffin, Georgia, U.S.A. campus has approximately 850 employees. They build engines for various power generation applications: generator sets, marine engines, and engines for earth-moving machines.

Hosur

Established in 1989, the Hosur, India facility has more than 200 employees. The facility manufactures a wide range of Cat engines with core competencies in machining, assembly, test, and paint. 

Lafayette

The Lafayette, Indiana, U.S.A. facility is home to more than 1,900 Caterpillar employees. They design and manufacture Cat® 3500, 3600, and C175 engines and provide remanufacturing services for 3500 engine products. These diesel, gas, and dual fuel engines are used in marine, petroleum, electric power and rail applications as well as in large Cat mining trucks. Located behind the facility is a dedicated power generation station that includes four generator sets (C175, G3520E, G3516H, and G3520H) that run continuously. Beyond supplying 6.5 megawatts of base electrical load to the factory, the purpose of the facility is to evaluate generator set durability, identify key component wear patterns, and more accurately establish service intervals.

Larne

The Larne, Northern Ireland facility is 1 million square feet. Larne manufactures 4 kW – 20 MW gas powered and diesel driven generator sets. It’s also home to Europe’s largest automated hemi-anechoic chamber with state-of-the-art acoustic research and test facilities.

Mannheim

The Mannheim, Germany facility has more than 900 employees and is regarded worldwide for manufacturing reliable and efficient products. This facility focuses on gas engines for electricity power plants and combined heat and power (CHP) plants.

Piracicaba

The Piracicaba, Brazil facility produces local products for the Brazilian market. This includes additional assembly of C280 and VM 32 generator sets for marine applications.

Tianjin

The Tianjin, China facility was established in 2000 and manufactures Cat generator sets ranging from 5.5 to 900 kVA. With approximately 400 employees and a large production capacity, Tianjin has achieved a great safety and quality reputation. Fueled by Caterpillar global standard designs and processes, this facility blends high-speed and tightly controlled processes in a state-of-the-art ISO 9001 and 14001 certified assembly environment.
