Caterpillar Introduces 2,750 kW Diesel Generator Set

For Worldwide Release: September 20, 2017
Release Number: EEPR1317

PEORIA, ILL. – Caterpillar Inc. today announced the introduction of the Cat® 3516E diesel generator set with a new 2,750 kW rating for 60 Hz standby applications. Certified to U.S. EPA Stationary Emergency Regulations, this reliable package features industry-leading power density to reduce total site preparation, transportation and installation costs while requiring less overall space for the generator set.

The newly rated Cat 3516E generator set offers reliable backup power from a footprint of 220.8 square feet, saving up to 12 percent of installed space when compared with competing generator sets at similar ratings. It is the result of the on-going refinement of the Cat 3500 Series engine, which has demonstrated its performance and durability in hundreds of thousands of installations worldwide.

The Cat 3516E high power-density generator set delivers the latest in a series of new ratings for medium- to large-sized diesel generator sets from 1,250 kW to 2,800 kW. These new ratings significantly reduce customers’ installed and ancillary costs through reduced overall footprints and weight.

“The introduction of this uprated generator set adds to Caterpillar’s industry-leading portfolio of power solutions finely tuned to customer needs,” said Jason Kaiser, product manager for Caterpillar’s Large Electric Power Division. “It reflects how we are leveraging Caterpillar’s proven technology and deep knowledge of the market to continuously improve our customers’ return on investment.”

The Cat 3516E generator set is designed to meet the NFPA power restoration requirement for Level 1 systems and accepts 100 percent block load in one step. It also meets ISO 8528-5 G3 requirements for steady state and load acceptance.

This generator set can be equipped with a low- or high-voltage alternator. Both alternator options enable quick load acceptance and feature exceptional motor starting capabilities, allowing users to minimize oversizing the generator set due to motor starting requirements.

The Cat 3516E generator set utilizes the field-proven Cat ADEM™ A5 engine control module (ECM), which integrates all engine functions including ignition, governing, air-fuel ratio control, and engine protection.

Caterpillar is a leader in the power generation marketplace with power systems engineered to deliver unmatched durability, reliability and value. The company offers worldwide product support, with parts and service available globally through the Cat authorized service and dealer network. In addition, dealer service technicians are trained to service the entire Cat generator set and ancillary equipment.
