Caterpillar Launches 1 MW CG132B-16 Natural Gas Generator Set with Outstanding $/kW Performance

Peoria, Illinois – Caterpillar Energy Solutions is pleased to introduce the Cat® CG132B-16 generator set, rated for continuous power at 1 MW for 50 Hz in natural gas applications. The new generator set offers outstanding price-performance and optimized lube oil management with high power density.
“This new gas generator set solution will allow our customers to experience faster payback periods of power plants due to the lower investment costs,” said Tobias Wedemeier, product line manager for Caterpillar Energy Solutions. “The 1 MW CG132B-16 offers customers low investment and service costs, while still sustaining high electrical efficiency. The new generator set offers high power density with a very small footprint, featuring one of the most compact designs in its class. The CG132B-16 features higher exhaust gas temperature, up to 470-plus Celsius, making it ideal for Combined Heat and Power (CHP) applications, including steam generation.” said Wedemeier.
“With the optimized piston group and the expanded lubricant volume, adapted to the engine, we have significantly reduced the lubricant operating costs,” said Florian Kahl, development engineer for Caterpillar Energy Solutions. “Improved oil lifetime is due to much smoother oil usage, which decreases oil consumption and increases oil exchange intervals, reducing overall owning and operating costs.”
In addition, the CG132B-16 features Caterpillar’s fully digitized Total Plant and Energy Management (TPEM) system. Responsible for controlling all power plant data within an advanced hardware and software solution, this new system eliminates the need for multiple controls. It also features a user-friendly 15-inch touchscreen, which provides a wide range of data concerning the status of the power plant. The data is saved for up to one year, enabling shorter maintenance times through systematic planning.
The CG132B-16 also comes standard with Cat Connect capabilities, Cat Connect is a suite of services to collect and analyze data to help customers reduce owning and operating costs and increase profits.
