Cat® C18, C32 Marine Engines Are Now Available to meet US EPA Tier 3 Regulations
Caterpillar Marine Power Systems will highlight its wide array of U.S. EPA Tier 3/IMO II compliant marine power solutions at the upcoming International Workboat Show held December 5 – 7 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Among the Tier 3 solutions featured at the show will be the Cat® 3516C marine engine, C175 marine engine as well as the C18 and C32 engines, both of which have recently became available to order in a Tier 3 configuration.
“As a marine power solutions provider, we are an industry leader in offering a broad range of power products capable of complying with the most stringent regulations, in this case EPA Tier 3,” said Mark Harrison, Caterpillar Marine Power Systems Applications Manager. “Our customers can be confident that we have an appropriate solution for their extremely varied needs, from fishing to offshore and everything in between.”
Headlining this year’s show will be the 3500C Tier 3/IMO II compliant engine family as well as the C175 marine engine. The 3500C engine family includes both the 3512C HD and 3516C HD marine engines. These are available in a wide range of ratings that meet EPA Tier 3 and IMO II without aftertreatment. These new propulsion, auxiliary, and DEP engines, designed and built from the current 3500C platform, have minimal dimensional and weight changes in comparison. Owning and operating costs for these new 3500 Tier 3 products are very similar to Tier 2, and in some cases are even lower than the EPA Tier 2 products they are replacing. Additional new features for the 3500C series include stainless steel exhaust heat shields and a closed crankcase ventilation system.
The C175 engine for marine applications is a modern, highly efficient, EPA Tier 3/ IMO II certified engine series consisting of 16 cylinder, V engines. These are four stroke, non-reversible engines rated at speeds from 1600 to 1800 rpm and intended primarily for use as main propulsion for vessels. The engines are turbocharged and aftercooled with a common rail injection fuel system with electronically controlled injectors. The C175 platform is designed for optimal emissions flexibility and capability, high power density, improved reliability and durability targeting the BSFC and reliability of a medium speed engine with the power density and unmatched performance of a high-speed engine.
Additionally, Caterpillar is pleased to announce the immediate availability of Cat C18 and C32 marine engine families as Tier 3/IMO II compliant products. In addition to meeting the stricter EPA Tier 3 emissions, both of these engines now offer a fresh water aftercooled option for all commercial propulsion and auxiliary engines and genset packages. Additionally Caterpillar is offering the current IMO II only engine ratings with the new added reliability benefits of the improved cooling system for international customers.
All Cat marine power solutions are available through the global Cat dealer network. For more information on the Tier 3 solutions featured at the show, please stop by the Caterpillar booth 2701 and 2801 at the 2012 International Workboat Show.
