New Cat® 770G Off-Highway Truck Delivers
Solid Performance and Superior Reliability and Durability

The new Cat® 770G Off-Highway Truck is designed and built for demanding construction, quarry and mining applications. In the 40-short-ton-payload class, the 770G features an efficient Cat engine and drive train configured to deliver high production and low cost per tonne of material hauled. An extensive list of options enables customers to configure their trucks to match their applications and their business objectives.

The 770G builds on the proven performance of the 770, which was introduced in 2006 and accumulated hundreds of thousands of hours moving materials.

The 770G incorporates many features to enhance performance and safety and reduce life cycle costs. At the heart of the new truck is the Cat C15 ACERT™ engine, which produces 381 kW (511 hp). To suit customers’ needs, it is available in two different configurations with exhaust emission levels equivalent to those required by U.S. EPA Tier 2/E.U. Stage II or to Tier 3/Stage IIIA standards.

Strong performance with operator benefits
The C15 engine powers the truck efficiently even on steep grades. Electronically controlled power train components provide torque-controlled shifts that enable the truck to climb grades quickly and to keep the operator comfortable.

The 770G offers retarding strategies that include Automatic Retarder Control and optional engine braking. Both systems increase the comfort level of the operator and the speed of the truck going downhill.

For applications where roadway conditions are slippery, the optional Traction Control System automatically compensates for different wheel speeds and effectively reduces wheel spin.

Three different body options and two liner options enable optimizing the truck for the application. Caterpillar offers Quarry, Flat Floor and Dual Slope bodies. A steel liner is available for the Flat Floor and Dual Slope bodies, and a rubber liner is available for the Flat Floor body. Sideboards are available for hauling lightweight materials, such as coal.

Enhancing safety and operator efficiency
The 770G has optional, wide stairway access, which makes getting to and from the cab and maintenance platforms a simple task. Lights for the stairs are available.

Two cab options are available to enable customers to stick to basics or to select from a wide range of options.  The cab provides rollover protection and falling object protection for the operator. The Cat Work Area Vision System (WAVS) camera system is available to enhance the operator’s view around the truck.

The optional Cat Comfort Series III seat adjusts to all sizes of operators and allows the operator to select the suspension characteristics. A trainer’s seat in the cab facilitates thorough training. In addition to ergonomically designed controls, a throttle lock reduces fatigue on long hauls. Electrically driven secondary steering ensures reliability, and speed limiting capability enforces safe procedures.

For the operator doing daily inspections and for maintenance personnel, inspection points, service access points and lockout points are accessible from the ground or platforms. A steering system lockout reduces risk during engine-on service.

Reducing life cycle costs
A number of Caterpillar designs help keep truck costs down. The 770G has extended service intervals, which reduce downtime and maintenance costs. The engine oil and filter require changing at 500-hour intervals, and the transmission, torque converter, steering and braking hydraulic filters require service at 1,000-hour intervals. Precise engine control helps ensure optimum fuel burn for reduced fuel consumption per tonne of material moved, and the optional hydraulic demand fan only uses power when needed.

Major components, such as the C15 ACERT engine and the planetary powershift transmission, have long service lives. The Cat seven-speed power shift transmission is integrated with transmission chassis control electronics for improved performance and extended durability. Also, the differential design enhances durability. Long-life truck frames are made of mild steel for simple welding repair in the field.

Cat Connect makes smart use of technology and services to help improve jobsite efficiency. LINK technologies such as optional Product Link™ assist fleet owners in managing equipment by tracking information—fuel usage, productivity, idle time, and diagnostic codes—which is then shared through the VisionLink® interface. Similarly, the VIMS™ option monitors and reports machine health to designated managers. The optional system for monitoring tonne-kilometers per hour can extend tire life. The Truck Production Management System helps the operating crew manage loads for optimum productivity.
