Around the world, Cat® customers are hard at work protecting coastlines, deepening and widening ports, creating and maintaining ports and shipping channels, remediating contaminated rivers and restoring natural habitats and wetlands. Caterpillar supports dredging and water-based infrastructure.
Our team recently returned from the WEDA Dredging Summit & Expo in Vancouver where Caterpillar was a platinum sponsor along with our customer J.F. Brennan, a company that has taken their innovations in marine contracting above, below and all around the water. We are proud to support their work as stewards of the waterways, using standard Cat equipment as well as some with amphibious and other modifications. The WEDA Dredging Summit & Expo, a technical conference that aims to promote exchange of knowledge in these industries, is a great example of an event where we can collaborate with customers and OEMs to raise awareness for our innovative solutions for problems related to the protection and enhancement of marine environments.
Our team also had the opportunity to recognize one of our OEM customers during the show. Caterpillar representatives presented Tristan Swanink of STC B.V., a manufacturing and educational group for the shipping, transport and port industries, with our Caterpillar Excellence Award for Sustainability in Process Innovation. The Caterpillar OEM Solutions team was a finalist for this 2016 internal award at Caterpillar that highlighted a successful project that STC was highly involved in. The collaboration between the Caterpillar teams in the US and STC in the Netherlands to deliver a customized 6015B OEM Long Reach Hydraulic Shovel to a port project in Israel was groundbreaking, and we are proud to recognize our customers for their innovations in the dredging industry.
Our exhibit at the WEDA Dredging Summit & Expo was a partnership and collaboration of several of our businesses – OEM Solutions, Cat Marine, and EMD Power Products. Two of our OEM Solutions representatives were among the technical presentations given, both as part of the Innovative Dredging Equipment educational sessions.
Ben Evans, an NPI Team Leader for Caterpillar OEM Solutions, presented on optimizing construction equipment for long reach excavation in the dredging industry. Ben’s paper and presentation earned an award and cash prize for representing “why dredging is good.”
Stephen Rutherford, Sales Manager at OEM Solutions, presented on corrosion resistance in earthmoving machines as viable modifications for machine environments. Click here to learn more about the D7E Dredging Arrangement that features corrosion resistant modifications for work in this industry.
Both technical papers can be found on the WEDA website:
Thank you to our current and future customers we met with at this year’s WEDA Dredging Summit & Expo for the invaluable feedback and enthusiasm for the dredging industry. Caterpillar is proud to be a leading solutions provider for this industry, and we look forward to sharing more insights and innovations for dredging and water-based infrastructure at events in the future.
