Dredging Industry Podcast Featuring Caterpillar Expert

The Western Dredging Association hosted the 21st World Dredging Congress & Exposition (WODCON XXI) in Miami last month, with Caterpillar participating as a premier sponsor. This conference featured a technical program that showcased 120 papers and several panel discussions spanning a wide range of dredging topics with relevance to challenges and new developments across the globe.

With more than 80 exhibitors displaying the latest dredging technologies and equipment, as well as short courses and programs for continued learning, this event was clearly dedicated to helping connect and develop industry experts, suppliers, and customers in the areas of dredging, maritime construction, safety, and environmental concerns internationally.

After the close of the event, DredgingToday.com published a podcast hosted by Red Meters with a few industry experts to discuss the takeaways from this event as well as some leading trends in this industry. Our own Steve Rutherford from Caterpillar OEM Solutions participated in this podcast panel discussion along with Jay Wise from Kruse Integration and Harry Steve from Cable Arm.

Here’s a quick glance at part of the conversation:

“Sustainability is one of our core values in action that we try to demonstrate every day. We’re not talking about just economic sustainability, but also environmental sustainability. We believe that’s really the only way to conduct your business, and dredging and marine construction is such an excellent opportunity to demonstrate that. Last year we held a conference on the restoration of natural infrastructure that revolves around water and looks for ways we can utilize some of our strengths to be an active participant in doing that. Things like beneficial use of soil, or remediation of soil, clean-up efforts, that sort of thing. That falls right into helping our customers be successful with the products that they have, and also being part of a larger solution of, say, coastal protection or dealing with clean-up after events like Superstorm Sandy. Being part of those kinds of activities falls right into what this industry is all about.”
