Mantrac Ghana Designs Hybrid Power Solution to Reduce Costs

As the authorized Cat® dealer in Ghana, Mantrac Ghana supplies a full range of Cat construction equipment, as well as mining, forestry, material handling, and power generation solutions. To improve dealer support for customers in Ghana and across West Africa, Mantrac constructed a world-class component rebuild center, where technicians disassemble machinery, inspect components, replace worn parts, and reassemble and test to deliver like-new performance.

Because grid power can be costly in a remote location, Mantrac engineers developed a fully independent, hybrid energy system to supplement utility power. Equipped with 1,290 rooftop-mounted Cat PVC395 photovoltaic modules to improve its sustainability footprint along with three Cat diesel generator sets, the facility runs 12 hours a day without risk of a power interruption.

Cat Connect technology allows the Cat master microgrid controller to monitor and analyze real-time performance data remotely, ensuring a continuous supply of high-quality power to the facility at the lowest cost possible.

The solar photovoltaic system currently provides more than 30 percent of the energy needed to power the facility. However, the system can expand as the facility grows and its power requirement increases.
