Caterpillar Inc. announced the launch of the Cat® XQ570, the company's latest rental diesel generator set in a series of products engineered to meet Tier 4 Final emissions standards. Rated for prime power at 570 kVA or 625 kVA standby at 60 Hz, the mobile generator set is suitable for all markets and designed for greater portability, lower noise levels and highly efficient voltage changes.
The robust Cat XQ570 is powered by the four-stroke Cat C18 ATAAC industrial diesel engine, which combines consistent performance and improved fuel economy with minimum weight while meeting U.S. Tier 4 Final emission standards.
Following the recently released Cat XQ375, the newest offering is targeted for mid-sized rental power needs throughout the U.S. and Canada, especially in locations with stringent local government regulations. Caterpillar is committed to expanding its offering meeting Tier 4
Final emissions standards to include mobile generator sets with ratings from 35 kVA to 570 kVA.
The XQ570 includes several new environmentally friendly design features to enhance performance and customer satisfaction. A new electrically controlled viscous clutch fan varies fan speed reducing air flow through the package in cooler conditions. As a result, the fan lowers noise levels, reduces parasitic load and decreases contamination by water, dust, and snow ingress.
Equipped with diesel particulate filters (DPF), the mobile generator sets are designed to reduce particulate, carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon emissions while lowering the presence of visible smoke. The filters physically trap emission particles in the exhaust and are self- regenerating, which means they do not need to be replaced, but instead, will "burn off" the accumulated soot periodically. In comparison to competitive engines using a Selective
Catalytic Reduction-only system, the DPF presents significant owning and operating cost savings with the added flexibility of being rentable in non-attainment zones.
Performance is increased through the use of the Cat integrated voltage regulator (IVR), which controls voltage transients when load is varied. Previously offered as a stand-alone module but now integrated into the control panel, the IVR provides precise control, exceptional block loading and consistent voltage in the normal operating range. This simplified system reduces the number of components and associated wiring, requires fewer adjustments and is fully supported by Caterpillar’s Electronic Technician service tool.
In addition, a Transient Load Relief (TLR) system is offered to improve the response to changes in load. With traditional control systems, generator sets often need to be oversized to accommodate load increases, but the full rated power is not needed during normal operation.
The TLR system immediately detects a load increase and then calculates the optimum voltage reduction to allow the engine to recover with the least possible frequency dip. As load is added, the engine recovers faster, thereby allowing the use of a smaller generator set to meet a specific load step requirement. The feature reduces generator set oversizing and provides a more efficient solution to customer’s power needs.
The XQ570 is outfitted with the new EMCP 4.4 control panel with fully-featured power metering, including protective relaying engine/generator control and monitoring with simple, user-friendly interface and navigation controls. A principle advantage of the control system is the auto-configuration of key performance parameters when voltage changes are required.
The EMCP 4.4, ADEM™ A4 and IVR sense changes and adjust the parameters for optimum performance. Providing greater flexibility when moving between multiple job sites with differing frequency and voltage needs, the auto-configuration capability eliminates the time and potential errors associated with reprogramming units.
The Cat XQ570 is available with Caterpillar’s Extended Service Coverage (ESC), which provides its power systems customer’s coverage beyond the Standard Warranty period. The
3 ESC, which is transferrable, offers protection against unexpected repair bills and provides 100 percent parts and labor reimbursement for covered components, less any applicable deductible. Caterpillar’s global service network ensures access to quick, quality repairs by trained technicians at Caterpillar authorized service locations.
The Cat XQ570 is supported by over 1,000 U.S. and Canada dealers in the Cat dealer network which are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Caterpillar also offers a toll-free hotline to aid in locating the right dealer with the right power product to meet its customer’s emergency needs at 1-800 RENT CAT. The Cat dealer group provides customers with the correct part precisely at the right time, resulting in reduced maintenance costs and best-in-class uptime
Parts, service and shipping options are available in even the most remote locations, and dealers offer a variety of remanufactured components with same-as-new performance and reliability at a fraction of the cost.
