Caterpillar Inc. is pleased to introduce generator set offerings in compliance with the new G99 United Kingdom, VDE-AR-N 4110 German and Belgium C10/C11 grid code requirements. Grid code is a set of technical requirements defined for facilities connected to the public electric grid to ensure safe and proper functioning. As verified by FGH Certification Office and Moeller Operating Engineering certification body, the following Cat® models meet grid code compliance: G3500H, CG132B, CG170, and CG260 rated from 400 kWe – 4,500 kVA.”
“As growth in distributed energy and other factors increase the risk of instability on electric utility systems, nations and grid providers are tightening grid code requirements,” said Jennifer Fassnacht, new product development manager at Caterpillar.
Caterpillar generator sets certified or declared as grid code compliant ship from the factory fully tested and ready for customer installation. Control system enhancements have been added, including hardware and software modules interfacing with the generating plant and utility grid – assuring the genset operates in compliance with the applicable grid code. The grid code controls are designed with substantial flexibility to accommodate a wide range of provisions such as different reactive power modes, active power functions, and connection conditions for normal operation or reconnection after mains decoupling.
“Grid codes are not a new concept,” explained Fassnacht, “they’re being developed and expanded in response to growth in renewables and other risks to grid stability. Caterpillar is continuing to review grid code standards across Europe. Maintaining well-timed global compliance is important to Caterpillar to ensure that our customers avoid uncertainty when connecting grid networks.”
Caterpillar anticipates announcing additional country certifications in 2020. Click here for more information on how Caterpillar is preparing for the future of grid code compliance.
