For Release in Europe, Middle East, Africa, CIS: April 2013
Release Number: 199PR13

Caterpillar Work Tools, the leading provider of wheel loader and excavator attachments, is introducing its Cat® line of GSM orange peel grapples for hydraulic excavators and material handlers from 15-75 tons. The grapples can be used for a wide range of applications such as handling shredded scrap, long structural beams or car bodies, handling waste at recycling and transfer stations and handling rocks at construction sites.

"With the introduction of the Cat line of GSM orange peel grapples, Caterpillar is taking grapple performance to new levels and help contractors increase profits by completing sorting and loading jobs with greater precision and in less time" said Richard J. Hermann, EAME Commercial Manager, Caterpillar Work Tools.

Strong and well designed construction
The Cat GSM grapple comes standard with a protection frame and protected tubes enhancing the life time of the cylinder rod-ends. Due to the nature of the materials that can be loaded, high quality wear resistant materials for the shells, pivot pins and sleeve bearings are used. The pivot points are equipped with dust seals engineered to the latest standard. The housing features a proven rigid design for a long service life. The grapples are equipped with 360º hydraulic rotation for easy positioning of the grapple during operation.

Powerful grip
The powerful closing force of the grapple shells combined with fast opening and closing times ensures short cycle times delivering more tons per hour.

Wide grapple range
Committed to offering a grapple for every application, the GSM line (GSM 22,25,35,45,50,60) is available with 5 grab tines; either open, semi-open or closed. The tines are made of wear resistant material and the weld-on tips can easily be replaced. Open shells are recommended for handling large scrap materials, rocks or concrete blocks while closed shells are recommended for small scrap materials like beverage cans. The semi-open shells can be used for handling materials like car radiators, batteries, wires and cables, white goods and engine blocks. The GSM offering provides a perfect match to any Cat as well as any other brand excavators.

The GSM orange peel grapples are fully supported by Cat dealers so that customers can order parts and service for machines and work tools from a single source. Every Cat work tool is supported with a comprehensive range of pre- and after-sales services that include: advice on work tool selection, operator training, equipment management, and a range of financial and insurance solutions.
