A Look at Cat® Hydraulic Mining Shovel Undercarriages

Your mining equipment faces some of the most rigorous conditions imaginable. Cat® hydraulic mining shovel undercarriages are specifically designed to meet these demands. The undercarriage represents about half of your machine’s owning and operating costs. So it pays to invest in a system that delivers the most value.

Estimated read time: 3 minutes

The undercarriage of a Cat® hydraulic mining shovel is designed by Caterpillar engineers to exacting specifications. Each component in the integrated system provides long-term wear life and increased uptime. That means lower costs, reduced maintenance intervals and longer service life.

The heavy-duty track chain is specifically designed for high field loads. Large-diameter track pins increase the system’s strength, and high-interface bushings reduce pitch extension wear. This helps extend chain life by 20% to 40%.

Your Cat dealer offers ongoing support for your hydraulic mining shovel undercarriage. That includes inventory management assistance and upgrade recommendations as well as maintenance and repair support.

INDUSTRY-LEADING UNDERCARRIAGE COMPONENTS

Let’s look at the components of your Cat hydraulic mining shovel undercarriage:

  • Track group/link assembly (on 6015-6020): The greased lubricated track with exclusive Cat rigid seals minimizes wear and offers incredible maneuverability. Stepped bushings and the Positive Pin Retention (PPR) system extend track life and component reuse.

  • Track rollers: Cat track rollers are sealed for life with a simple bolt-on assembly. They are designed with heavy-duty components and use a one-piece forged roller rim for increased structural integrity.

  • Idler group: The idler accurately guides the track in and out of track rollers using hydraulic tension control and Cat Duo-ConeTM seals. These components support the machine’s weight while offering control over track slack and tension.

  • Track pads (on 6030-6090): Cat undercarriage track pads are designed with alloy steel case-hardened bushings and induction-hardened roller paths and drive lugs. They can be easily repinned and rebushed for longer usability. High-interference straight bushings provide longer joint life.

  • Sprockets: The sprockets are built to last as long as the entire undercarriage system does. Alloy steel casting with selective heat treatment provides extreme durability on rigorous mine sites.

  • Pins: Spring clip pin or nut-and-bolt retention keeps the pins from walking. Cat pins feature larger pin bosses and improved pin retention. The pins can also be rebushed.

To enhance your hydraulic mining shovel’s standard undercarriage, you can swap out parts and upgrade them. You can even upgrade machinery from other manufacturers with new Cat undercarriage options.

UNDERCARRIAGE ASSURANCE PROGRAMS

Along with the premium components of a Cat undercarriage system, you have the option to choose a Cat Assurance Program. These programs offer support beyond standard new machine or parts warranties. An undercarriage assurance program covers all major moving undercarriage components on Cat hydraulic mining shovels.

Are you interested in learning more about Cat undercarriage options for hydraulic mining shovels? Your Cat dealer can help you customize your equipment to handle the specific needs of your mine site. Plus, your dealer can help you pick out a Customer Value Agreement (CVA) to make sure your undercarriage gets the care it needs.
