Every day, your Cat® D11 Dozer track shoes take a beating on the jobsite. When your track shoes are damaged, you face not only costly repairs but also potential downtime. Let’s look at how the technology of Super Extreme Service (SES) track shoes is changing the game for mining operations.
Estimated read time: 3 minutes
Track shoes are critical components on bulldozers used for mining. They are designed to prevent bending and breaking, even when operating on hard rock, boulders and other rough terrain. And when equipped with tougher track shoes — like Super Extreme Service (SES) shoes — machines can retain traction in the most extreme conditions.
When you’re operating a dozer on a mine site, you’re working on uneven and unforgiving ground. Your machine is pushed to the limits while performing critical tasks. And while every part of the bulldozer is put under stress, the undercarriage components often take the biggest beating. In fact, dozer undercarriage costs can amount to as much as 50% of total owning and operating costs.
A Cat® D11 Dozer working in hard rock puts extreme stress on track shoes. These shoes are designed to perform on mine sites, but they’ll eventually wear down. Even if you aren’t facing total equipment failure, you might notice your dozer isn’t performing at its prime. Steering, control and travel speeds can be affected when your track shoes begin to wear down.
SES shoes are made for Cat D11 Dozers. These shoes have an 8% thicker trackpad and a larger grouser, which is 28% wider and 10% taller. So you get stronger shoes with more operational hours before wear.
SES shoes also have a protective trailing edge with a “whale tail” design, which improves bolt head protection. The components are designed for durability, but they also use less material in low-stress regions to help lower the shoe weight.
Other benefits of SES shoes include:
30% greater wear life than extreme service (ES) shoes
Better wear life balance with other undercarriage components
Reduced service and replacement downtime
Lower operational cost per hour
