Caterpillar has four standard bucket types:
General purpose buckets give you higher fill factors and material retention in load and carry applications. They’re also great for grading, leveling and dumping in a wide variety of applications and materials.
Material handling buckets feature a flat-floor design that’s perfect for handling stockpiled materials such as aggregates or other easy-to-load materials requiring moderate breakout force.
Rock buckets are best for face- or bank-loading in mining or quarry applications. A straight-edge rock bucket provides higher breakout force and increased dump clearance. The spade-edge rock bucket offers increased penetration in certain applications.
Heavy-duty rock buckets are as advertised: ready to take on extremely aggressive applications like face-loading granite.

Multipurpose buckets give you the versatility to do a little bit of everything — from re-handling materials to clamping, dozing, grading, leveling and dumping.
Side dump buckets are perfect for heavy-duty rock loading. They can be outfitted with rock-rack and V-type cutting edges and teeth.
Slag buckets excel in continuous, heavy-duty work in hot slag.
