Home base: Gold Hill, North Carolina
Company: Trexler Trucking, Inc.
Trucks: More than 80
Engines: 33 Cat® engines
Engine mileage: 1+ million miles on each Cat engine — 50+ million total
Trexler Trucking, Inc. got its start in 1946 when Glenn Trexler began hauling lumber. Today his son Doug
runs the business, owning and operating a fleet of more than 80 trucks — 33 of them powered by Cat
on-highway truck engines — and specializing in dump trucking for a regional customer base.
In 2021, Trexler Trucking hit an impressive milestone — topping 50 million miles on its Cat truck engines. (To put it in perspective, that’s the equivalent of 105 trips to the moon and back!) We sat down with Doug for a few quick questions about why he relies on Cat power.
Caterpillar: Trexler Trucking’s been in business since the 1940s. When and why did you start using Cat engines?
Doug: We switched to Cat in the early 1980s. It was just the quality of the engines. We’ve had a good experience with Caterpillar — we receive good service.
Caterpillar: You regularly overhaul your Cat engines. Why do you do that instead of buying new?
Doug: We’ve been able to overhaul our Cat engines and get good results, even on our longer hauls. We know we can keep running those trucks, and then when we’re ready to sell, we know we’ve got a good unit to sell.
Caterpillar: Why do you choose genuine Cat parts and repairs for your engines?
Doug: When we need something fixed, I like for it to be done right. That means less time spent refixing it. If I can go with the best parts and labor, I get the best results. I don’t make money when a truck’s sitting — I make money when a truck’s rolling.
Caterpillar: If you could pick just one word to describe Cat on-highway truck engines, what would it be?
Doug: Dependability.
Thanks to Doug and Trexler Trucking for their many years as loyal Cat customers.
