A LIFETIME ON THE ROAD
Ralph Looney has spent 46 years of his life behind the wheel — and he’s loved pretty much every minute of it. He received his chauffeur’s license at age 18 and began driving locally, then started his over-the-road career in June 1977. For a while, he and his wife were team drivers before she bought her own truck. For the past 18-plus years, Ralph’s been leasing with EPES Transport. With his passion for travel, truck driving has been the perfect career for Ralph, and he has no plans to retire anytime soon.
His Cat engine isn’t stopping soon, either, having just rolled over 2,078,250 miles. Ralph purchased his Freightliner powered by a Cat C15 engine in March 2008, and it’s served him well on his dedicated route from Statesville, North Carolina, to Lowe’s stores in Beckley and Lewisburg, West Virginia. In the dozen years he’s owned his truck, he’s painted it, replaced the front differential and transmission and rebuilt the engine.
