Overhaul, upgrade or repower time? You've got choices.

4 REPAIR OPTIONS THAT SAVE YOU TIME AND MONEY

By Caterpillar | Posted: March 2021

Getting ready for the second, third or fourth overhaul on your Cat® heavy-duty on-highway truck engine? Thinking about replacing or upgrading that engine or perhaps swapping in a Cat engine for another brand? We’ve got you covered. These four options can deliver more value for your repair dollars — for big savings in time, labor and costs.

Options 1 & 2: Cat Reman long blocks & Cat Reman long blocks with new content

As your cylinder block, crankshaft and cylinder head enter later overhaul cycles, the chances they’ll need to be replaced or machined increase — turning a straightforward rebuild into a more time-consuming, costly one. That’s when it makes sense to consider a long block. Ours come fully assembled with the parts you need for a quick, quality repair. You can choose either a Cat Reman long block or a Cat Reman long block with new content — here’s how to decide:

  • Is your core still in good condition? Cat Reman is a great choice. You'll get like new quality, performance and same-as-new 12-month Caterpillar Limited Warranty1 at an affordable price.

  • Is your core ineligible for credit towards a Cat Reman long block due to failure, or does it have no value due to excessive rust and corrosion? A Cat Reman long block with new content is a good solution, which features 100% new cylinder block, crankshaft and cylinder head. You’ll restart the lifecycle of your engine, making future overhauls possible

Cat Reman long blocks come with an unlimited miles, 12-month Caterpillar Limited Warranty1. For even more protection, you can add Extended Service Coverage (ESC) for 24, 36 or 48 months.

Options 3 & 4: Cat Reman engines and Cat Reman engines with new content

When overhauling your engine isn't the right choice for you, Cat Reman engines and Cat Reman engines with new content are fully assembled, drop-in solutions that save you repair time and money. If you want to upgrade your engine to a newer, lower emitting model or replace a competitive engine with similar displacement, Cat has you covered with the Cat Reman engine with new content option. Again, both options are available, and the decision factors are similar:

  • Is your core still in good condition? Cat Reman is a great solution. With full or even partial core credit2 for your existing engine, you’ll pay less for like new quality and an unlimited miles, 24-month Caterpillar Limited Warranty1.

  • Is your core ineligible for credit towards a Cat Reman engine due to failure, or does it have no value due to excessive rust and corrosion? A Cat Reman engine with new content is a great way to restart your engine's lifecycle. With 100% new cylinder block, crankshaft and cylinder head, it makes future overhauls possible.

  • Do you want to upgrade to a newer model or repower your truck with a Cat engine? Choose a Cat Reman engine with new content for a less expensive repair option.

An unlimited miles, 24-month Caterpillar Limited Warranty1 comes with Cat Reman engines. For even more protection, add Extended Service Coverage (ESC) for up to 60 months.3
