Offsite and Onsite: Opposites Attract

T.Scherber Demolition & Excavation

When talking to Missy and Trevor Scherber you hear the words foundation, forever and family repeatedly come up in conversation. These words are not part of some mantra or catchy business slogan. They are the goals, dreams and realities that are important to them in their professional and personal lives in both the literal and figurative sense.

“We create the foundation of our clients’ forever homes,” says Missy. “We are committed to providing a solid structure in which to build a family, career or whatever your goals are. We want the T.Scherber legacy in the Minneapolis area to stand out forever, so we are working to create a family focused work environment where giving back to the community is part of our business blue print.”

Trevor Scherber ventured out on his own in 2009 when he took over his brother’s dumpster business. Hard work was part of his upbringing. Trevor’s dad works in the earthmoving business, so Trevor grew up surrounded by the ups and downs of the construction industry. After high school, he attended the University of Minnesota studying finance. The world was in the midst of a crippling recession and his dad encouraged him to go to college and pursue banking. After several semesters at UM, he realized his true passions were not confined to a desk pushing paper; instead, he wanted to return to the cab of a 20-ton Cat machine and push dirt. He packed up, returned home, and began plotting his career one project at a time.

A few years later Trevor met Missy Redman, an outgoing fundraising professional with a keen awareness of business and community relations. It was a match made in jobsite heaven.

After 9 years in business, the husband and wife team behind T.Scherber Demolition & Excavation have each found their niche. It’s simple: he handles onsite, she handles offsite.

As their romanced blossomed, he promised her that if she channeled her fundraising prowess and passion into his growing business, she would be able to take the money they made together and donate it to the causes she cares about so deeply. That was, and remains, her motivation.

Philanthropy is at the forefront of the T.Scherber business strategy – whether it’s donating a portion of their fees to local organizations, or partnering with Folds of Honor to provide scholarships to the family of America’s fallen and disabled service-members.

They have now expanded their portfolio to include demolition and excavation. “And we’re only just beginning,” says Trevor with a wide grin and a look of disbelief.

Their top priority remains providing first class professionalism while being approachable, welcoming and relevant. One way they’ve been able to do that is through social media.

“I wanted to show customers, look at what we do and how we do it and the art of what we do,” says Missy. “There’s a lot of hard work that goes into the foundation of a forever home.”

And with Missy taking the lead on their social channels, it’s showing the importance of the ever-changing role of women in construction.

As if all that didn’t keep her busy enough, Missy takes some time at the end of each week to thank their crew for the hard work they do.

“One of the traditions of our company is feeding our crew at the end of the week,” says Missy. “There’s something about breaking bread and eating together that establishes family.”
