When he traded his Cat® 980G Wheel Loader for the 966K XE model, Sierra Mining & Crushing CEO Shane Madsen got more than he bargained for—more fuel savings, that is. In fact, he estimates he saves enough in fuel to cover about half of his machine payment every month.
“Everything about it is cheaper to operate,” he said of the 966K XE, which his recycling company uses to load trucks and crushers. “And it makes [the work] look easy.”
That’s because the 966K XE is equipped with an advanced powertrain, featuring a continuously variable transmission system that delivers up to a 25% fuel efficiency improvement without sacrificing performance.

“I enjoy running that machine. It keeps up with me, and I’m able to get things done faster,” Barrentine said. “The machine does a lot of the work for you now.”
