Cat customer OCEARCH recently wrapped up two expeditions in Australia, where they tagged 29 tiger sharks. Cat® dealer support was critical during the expeditions that spanned 22 days and was held on both the East and West Coasts.
OCEARCH, which conducts unprecedented research on great white sharks and other large apex predators in the ocean, collected the data for use with research on shark life history and migration.
Chris Fischer, OCEARCH founding chairman and expedition leader, acknowledged the great support received from Cat dealers Hastings Deering and WesTrac. Both dealers played an important role supporting the MV OCEARCH, which is powered by three Cat engines and two gen sets.
“When you’re trying to explore all over the world, you need a global partner,” said Fischer. “We also need to be operating with the best equipment on the planet. And that’s why we work with Caterpillar and their dealer network across the world.”
With the success of these expeditions, Australians are now able to track and engage with 29 tiger sharks tagged off their shores in near-real time on the Global Shark Tracker (available on ocearch.org, as well as through apps on iOS and Android).
