Cat® MineStar™ technology was the star of Caterpillar’s booth at the 2015 SME Annual Conference & Expo in Denver, Colorado this past February.
This years’ SME (Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration) conference focused on how mining is a rapidly changing field, and how we have the opportunity right now to define the “Mine of the Future”.
Gwenne Henricks, Caterpillar Vice President for Product Development & Global Technology, spoke during a keynote session titled, “The Mine of the Future: Forecasting Opportunities and Challenges for the Global Mining Industry”. Henricks spoke on the need for mining equipment providers to adapt to changes in the mining industry.
“As we look to the next decade, we see the opportunity to be transformational in terms of the impact mining equipment companies can have on the industry as a whole,” she said.
In the company’s booth on the show floor, Caterpillar Global Mining echoed Henricks’s calls for transformation—especially when it comes to technology. The booth showcased Cat MineStar, a multifaceted suite of technology solutions that help make Cat equipment better and safer.
The MineStar technology five capability sets cover everything from machine monitoring, object detection and fleet data to remote-controlled machines and even fully autonomous operation.
In particular, the exhibit focused on Command for Hauling, a Caterpillar technology that allows for fully autonomous haul trucks. This included a new video showing the system in action, as well as experts on site to answer questions.
