Cat® Off-Highway Trucks Go to Work at Norwegian Quarry

One of the world’s largest quartzite quarries, located in Austerta¬na in Finnmark, Norway, is using three Cat® 775G Off-Highway Trucks on a treacherous journey to deliver quartzite from the quarry to the crusher and quay.

The quarry sits nearly 350m above sea level, whereas the quay is only 40m above sea level. This is no easy feat for the trucks, which must travel 3km down a transport road with a gradient slope upwards of 1:7. The trucks run two daily shifts and are in operation from 6 a.m. to midnight, with each truck performing approximately 20 runs per shift.

The trucks are paired with the 390DL Large Hydraulic Excavator, which loads the trucks in seven or eight passes in just over two minutes. Each year, the quarry produces approximately 1.2 million tonnes of quartzite that is used globally.
