Cat® equipment face challenges every day – from harsh environments to challenging job sites. This Cat 775G Off-Highway Truck heading to a mine in Spitsbergen, Norway was put to the test before it ever reached its job site.
Cat customer AF Gruppen purchased the machine for coal hauling at its Svea mine. To get to the mine, the 775G endured an unusual journey in harsh conditions. After transport from Oslo, Norway to Longyearbyeb, Norway by sea cargo, the 775G completed the next five kilometers on its own – escorted by police on a regular road. It was then loaded on a sledge and pulled by a D8T Track-Type Tractor for 65 km. A glacier awaited the machine duo at the end of the journey, where another D8T joined in position behind the 775G, providing resistance on the steep grade down the glacier.
