Forks are an essential machine attachment for virtually any industry or application imaginable today. But did you know that spec’ing the right fork for your work can pay huge productivity dividends? Here’s how to find the right Cat® forks for your wheel loader, your business and your bottom line.
Estimated read time: 5 minutes
Pallet forks have long been indispensable on machines ranging from compact loaders up to mammoth-sized wheel loaders. But the revolution in auxiliary hydraulics systems has created an entire family of Caterpillar powered fork attachments for any machine in any industry and application.
Wheel loaders and tool carriers work especially well with fork attachments. You can quickly maximize the potential of your machine by learning which ones are best for which application. Working efficiently in diverse applications is a sure-fire way to increase profits for your business.
Pallet Forks
Pallet forks are the most basic, yet versatile, fork attachments for wheel loaders. Cat® pallet forks are your go-to attachment if you have palletized material on your jobsite. They are sized to handle all standard palletized loads so you can load or unload quickly, keeping your job moving and on track. And, they are compatible with Cat Fusion quick couplers, for easily moving between tasks.
Cat Fusion pallet forks have an open frame design and offset tines. This offers maximum visibility to the tines at ground level and truck bed height. The forks can be configured to allow the tines to either swing or stay in a fixed position.
Additional benefits:
You can select from maximum to minimum width, no tools required.
The six locking points are evenly spaced at 6.3 inches (16 cm) apart.
There are two options, depending on what works best for your loads: 60-inch or 72-inch nonswinging tines.
They are compatible with any loader using a Fusion quick coupler – grab the fork when you need it. Drop it when you don’t.
Forks for Logging
Cat log and lumber forks have flat fork tines and a raised back. In the forestry industry, log and lumber forks are used to load, unload, move, deck, sort and feed the mill. They are designed specifically for use in handling both unfinished logs and stacked lumber. Cat log and lumber forks are available with floating, nonswinging tines that can be adjusted horizontally.
The semi-millyard top clamp increases the capacity and holding ability of a log and lumber fork when moving wood around the yard. The top clamp closes between the tines for clamping small loads, and can also open up to 90 degrees to handle large palletized loads.
Logging forks feature two independent top clamps that close down on the tine tips. This open profile provides maximum capacity for unloading trucks and feeding the mill. The structures are designed to thrive in the high-load environment of the yard, with reinforcements at key areas.
Millyard forks move and sort logs throughout the processing cycle. The large top clamp closes between the tines to pick and move single logs, while still maintaining the capacity for moving full loads. The curved frame design promotes a rolling action of the logs for smooth loading and unloading. The structure is durable and built to handle heavy loads. The top clamp is built for rigidity and strength.
Millyard pole forks are optimized pole yards. This design features a refined frame profile and a top clamp that closes tighter to the frame. The result is positive, secure clamping of single poles as they are moved through the yard. The curved frame design promotes a rolling action of the logs for smooth loading and unloading.
More Wheel Loader Fork Options
The slip-on bucket fork attachment is a convenient option for yard cleanup. There’s no need to disconnect hydraulic lines or remove the fork; the slip-on bucket enables productivity by making cleanup easier and more frequent. Fitting neatly over the tines of the millyard pole fork, this lets the operator clean the yard quickly and just as quickly move back to forks when needed.
Sorting grapple forks are ideal for unloading trucks, stacking and sorting timber at mills. They feature a tine and clamp design for quick and gentle loading.
Unloading grapple forks help stack and sort timber at the mill. Their tine and clamp design delivers quick and gentle loading. Forks are available with a kickout that unloads the fork even at full lift, enabling higher lumber stacking.
Cat pipe and pole forks are designed and built for use in oil and gas field drilling, pipeline construction and above-ground utilities work. They have a wide carriage, fixed tines and a full-width, double-acting clamp to keep pipes secure during transport and while loading and unloading. The clamp can be positioned to hold large or small diameter pipes or poles against the tines, or positioned up and out of the way for handling other material. Clamping force on-pipe is enough to keep it secure and not cause damage.
