Compact track loaders were designed to provide a more efficient way of performing routine construction or agricultural tasks in tight environments with different surfaces. Rubber tracks provide more traction and better flotation across different substrates compared to tires, and the compact frame paired with powerful hydraulics means it can match larger machines without their size constraints.
With the Cat® D3 Series Compact Track Loaders, jobsite efficiency is taken to a new level. A variety of purpose-built attachments—like trenchers, wheel saws and brush cutters—diversify the compact track loader’s capabilities. What could take a crew with different hand tools an entire shift to complete, can be accomplished in a few hours with a compact track loader, an operator and a couple task-specific compact track loader attachments. Of course, with Cat machines there’s more innovation to make sure tasks are done as efficiently as possible.
The D3 Series Compact Track Loaders also come with many built-in and optional efficiency features. The exclusive Cat Intelligent Levelling System (ILEV) helps optimize attachment operations by automating steps in common workflows. The ILEV system is comprised of the following functions:
Utility, pavement and any other projects that require a specific dig/trench depth or surface grade benefit greatly from a combination of purpose-built Cat compact track loader attachments—like Cat trencher attachments—and the Work Tool Positioner function.
Let’s say you need to lay hundreds of feet of underground cable for a housing project. The Work Tool Positioner lets you set the angle of your trenching tool, so you maintain an optimal dig depth for the entire trench without manual control of the tool’s angle. But, suppose you hit a patch of rock or other obstruction, or you need to clear debris from the tool, and suppose this happens multiple times throughout the day. Work Tool Positioning allows you to automatically place the work tool back into its original position after lifting the tool from the trench and removing the obstacle, without the unnecessary tedium that comes with manual adjustment.
The same principles apply to any other Cat compact track loader attachments used for precision tasks that may need frequent tool repositioning. If you’re interested in how Work Tool Positioner or any other function in ILEV can help your business, reach out to your Cat dealer.
Maintenance. Maintenance. Maintenance. Keeping critical components of your Cat compact track loader in optimal condition with routine inspections and interval service automatically boosts your baseline efficiency. A small leak or worn bushing can easily compound into a hefty repair bill and lengthy time in the shop instead of working.
A quick visual inspection of your Cat compact track loader at the beginning and end of the day will allow you to note wear and tear and stay on top of replacing worn parts. Following recommended service intervals will also keep your machine working like new for longer. The same goes for any Cat compact track loader attachments you operate.
If you’re looking for maintenance advice or scheduling, or are wondering if there are any attachments that could help you increase productivity, be sure to consult your machine’s Operation and Maintenance Manual and reach out to your Cat dealer.
