You've made a significant investment in your Cat® small wheel loader. The best way to protect that investment is by following a preventative wheel loader maintenance schedule. Caterpillar has made it easy, with automatic service interval reminders built right in to models like the 926M, 930M and 938M. Take a look at how you can maximize those reminders to minimize your downtime.
Cat Product Link™ comes standard on the M-Series, wirelessly connecting to give you valuable insights into how your fleet is performing. It relays information like location, hours, fuel usage, idle time and diagnostic codes, all enabling you to make time-sensitive and fact-based decisions. With Product Link’s availability via both satellite and cellular connectivity, you’ll always have a clear view into your small wheel loader, giving you the ability to maximize efficiency, improve productivity and lower your cost of ownership and operation.
Preventative wheel loader maintenance reminders can all be viewed on the secondary display. As you approach a service interval, the display will light up with the corresponding reminder so you can schedule your downtime.
It’s important to note that the EPA Stage 4 Final/EU Stage IV engine in the M-Series of small wheel loaders has been designed to manage itself. It's going to automatically regenerate as needed at a low temperature, so you can concentrate on your work.
When that reminder pops up on the secondary display, you’ll see a countdown to indicate how many hours remain until the wheel loader maintenance must be performed. Go to your Information icon, navigate down to Service and select your preventative maintenance.
The maintenance countdowns are all relative to each individual service interval. For example, if a Cat 926M has 84 hours on it, it has 416 hours until its 500-hour service interval. As you get closer to that required service interval, the secondary display is going to prompt you at every startup, beginning at 50 hours, so there’s plenty of advance notice to schedule your downtime.
Once you've completed a service interval, you need to access the service mode on your screen to clear the reminder. Back out of the preventative maintenance screen, navigate to service mode and put in a code. The code will be automatically provided to you at time of purchase, but then can be customized.
Once service mode is enabled, go back to your wheel loader maintenance screen, where you can now clear the service reminder with one click of a button. As a reminder, the service mode works in tandem with Product Link, so as soon as an alert is cleared, everyone will be able to see the same information.
When the workday is done and you key the M-Series small wheel loader off, it's going to automatically start to purge the diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) out of the engine. An amber light will be on at the back of the machine, indicating it is doing a full DEF purge.
This process usually takes about 80 seconds, then it initiates a complete electrical shutdown. The M-Series small wheel loaders also come with a “Keep Alive” system, so even if the operator kills that master disconnect, the DEF purge will continue to ensure a complete and safe shutdown. As a best practice, you can still wait for the amber light to go out, but if you do kill that master disconnect before the DEF purge is complete, the machine is going to protect you and automatically do it on your behalf.
The Cat M-Series small wheel loaders come preloaded with preventative maintenance tips to keep your operators safe and your jobsites productive. Whether it’s the Cat 926m, 930m or 938m, these small wheel loaders will deliver minimal downtime, thanks to intentional and scheduled service intervals. Contact your Cat dealer today for more.
