TIPS TO USE CAT® GRADE MONITOR FOR 3D APPLICATIONS

Cat® Grade with 3D for dozers is a factory-integrated grade control system that helps you improve grading efficiency, accuracy and productivity. The system automates blade movements in both fine grading and production dozing applications, reducing manual operator inputs by as much as 80%.

Cat® Grade with 3D uses a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signal to automatically adjust blade movements — both lift and tilt — as you follow your jobsite’s digital design. All the operator needs to do is steer. Use Cat Grade monitor to plan and execute all phases of the job, from bulk earthmoving all the way to finish grade. The system works on flat plains and slopes, as well as complex designs and contours.

Cat Grade with 3D uses two GNSS receivers and Real Time Kinematic positioning guidance for pinpoint accuracy on the jobsite, and it is compatible with Leica, Topcon and Trimble radios and base stations.

Here are some quick tips to get the most out of your Cat Grade monitor.

Use Cat Grade monitor to customize and save easy-to-access application profiles for each job. After setting up elements like blade response, AutoCarry and bi-directional for the specific needs of your job, you can save all these settings in the Application Profiles menu. This cuts down on time spent entering these settings manually each time you return to a particular application.

Infield design allows you to create an alignment, with several different slopes and a profile on that alignment. Use your blade focus points to set two points along the path of your dozer. This creates a two-point design that automatically sets your alignment and mainfall. You can then save that basic design as a profile.

Another option is manually entering data to create simple level and slope designs. Check out this video for more information on manual mode.

Depth and Slope is a design function for creating a basic single-plane design just by knowing your heading and elevation. Point your dozer in the direction of your heading to determine master alignment and bench your heading. Then simply put your dozer blade down where you need it to be to bench your elevation. This automatically creates a flat, plane guidance that you can save and easily recall later.

Use the Cat Grade monitor to enter Auto Mode, which locks your blade in place according to the parameters of your design. Auto Mode has two options for connecting your blade to the design surface: snap to grade, which automatically snaps your blade down once it is within capture range; or latch to grade, which requires the operator to drive the blade down and latches to the correct angle of your design once it touches.

Use Cat Grade monitor to make adjustments to your dozer’s AutoCarry feature. AutoCarry helps you maximize your blade load by constantly monitoring your track slip. AutoCarry will raise the blade for you when excessive slip is measured, improving both your productivity and reducing undercarriage wear.

You can toggle AutoCarry on and off using your Cat Grade monitor. Want to make adjustments to your AutoCarry load factor? Enter the Machine menu under Settings to make modifications. Here, you can customize how quickly your dozer starts to pick your blade up — the lower the number, the more quickly your dozer will pick up the blade when it senses slip.

With Cat Grade with 3D functionality reading your positioning, AutoCarry works with Slope Assist to sense slip across all types of terrain, whether you’re working in snap to grade or latch to grade.

Worried about drifting off course? Your Cat Grade monitor’s lane select feature helps keep your dozer on the straight and narrow path. It locks your dozer’s blade onto the shoulder of the road you’re working on. Toggle between lanes on the left side of your blade to the right side of your blade, depending on where you’d like to focus the blade.
