World’s Largest Aluminum Sailing Yacht Carries Cat® Engines
When you first see her, the immense scale of this ultimate dream yacht literally takes your breath away.
Dykstra Naval Architects and designer Mark Whiteley worked together and partnered with renowned naval architects Royal Huisman builders in their Vollenhove, Amsterdam, shipyard, to create this spectacular, three-masted schooner, Sea Eagle II, to sail the world’s seas in grand style.
At 266 ft with a beam of 40 ft and sleek hull lines, her stunning design makes her the world’s largest aluminum sailing yacht and one of the top ten biggest sailing yachts ever built. Besides her beauty, Sea Eagle ll is ready for tomorrow’s laws and regulations, today.
The initial design brief called for a "world cruising, fast, comfortable and iconic looking" yacht.
That goal has been achieved beyond expectations with Sea Eagle II’s sturdy plumb bow, graceful stern overhang, and long waterline complement integrated sail handling systems by Rondal that consist of the three-carbon Panamax masts with furling booms, hydraulic boom vangs, headsail furling systems, deck winches and equipment, captive winches and continuous solid carbon standing rigging by Carbo-Link, all equipped with load sensing capabilities.
Sea Eagle II has been built in aluminum to LY3 standards, with accommodation for up to 12 guests and 13 crew. Carbon fiber masts measure more than 190 ft, and her 13-ft rudder is the biggest ever to be crafted out of carbon composite. The yacht's cutting edge Rondal rig and over 4,186 square yards of sail area enable it to achieve a speed of up to 21 knots under full sail.
Key features include a large superyacht sundeck with full flybridge controls, while the sheltered cockpit on the deck below features a bar, sofas, and a large al fresco dining area. Dark stained wenge trims are complemented by leather handrails and plush, upholstered wall panels. From here, a unique sliding door system provides a seamless transition to the main saloon.
This area has been finished with lacquered Alpi Walnut bulkheads and brushed natural oak flooring, and the layout includes an informal lounge area plus a large dining table that can host up to 16 people achieving another design parameter of hosting business meetings aboard ship.
The forward part of the superstructure will be dedicated to the owner and his guests.
Superyacht water toys onboard Sea Eagle II will include water scooters, stand-up paddleboards, kayaks, and two tenders, as well as diving equipment. Those seeking a further adrenaline rush can climb aboard the hydraulic crow's nest that rises up the main mast and offers supreme views out to sea.
Cat® Marine Engines
Diesel power aboard the Sea Eagle II is delivered by:
Pon Power
The Cat Marine engines were provided by Pon Power, the Cat Marine dealer serving the Netherlands and Norway. Pon Power engineered and customized the C32 close- coupled to the Katsa power Take-Off for the hydraulic system, which is necessary to operate the sails; and on the other side to a ZF gearbox for propulsion. The C7.1 gensets were provided with a front hydraulic pump PTO and enclosure. For the C32 and the C7.1, the complete monitoring, alarm and shutdown system was designed and built under Lloyd's Rules. The C4.4 emergency genset is a standard Cat genset.
