We get it. It’s confusing. Why are there so many variations of the Cat® C32B marine propulsion engine? The simple answer is this: With the C32B, we created an engine platform that delivers exactly what boat owners and builders told us they wanted — more power, less noise and all the reliability and durability that come with the Cat brand. We didn’t want to limit who could take advantage of these benefits, so we developed multiple configurations to meet a variety of requirements on the water.
Here’s a side-by-side look at your C32B options. Still have questions about which one is right for you? Ask your Cat dealer.
* D-tier or intermittent duty (also called light-duty commercial) engines are ideal for applications where the vessel spends no more than 30 minutes at full throttle at any one time, the load factor is limited to 50% and below, and full power operation is limited to two hours out of 12 hours of operation.
** E-tier or high-performance engines are designed to accelerate a vessel to planing condition and establish cruising speed. Vessels with E-tier engines should spend a maximum of 15 minutes at full throttle at any one time, limit load factor to 30% and below, and limit full power operation to 30 minutes out of six hours of operation.
