SEMI-MODULAR POWER PLANTS TURN WASTED GAS INTO KILOWATTS
For energy companies looking to decrease flaring, along with the costs of permits and electricity, Caterpillar Oil & Gas has a solution — one that’s already in the commissioning phase in Wyoming’s Oregon Basin.
Cat® semi-modular power plants allow you to self-generate power from gas that otherwise would be flared into the atmosphere, producing significant greenhouse gases. Capturing that gas and converting it into usable electricity instead reduces not only emissions but also operating costs.
A set-up for any site
A fully turnkey solution that delivers 100% availability and meets local emission standards, each semi-modular power plant consists of pre-fabricated modules housing Cat generators and switchgear needed to connect to an electrical substation. If your production site changes, the modules can be moved as well, leaving behind only the concrete foundation on which they sit.
Cat semi-modular power plants can be sized to fit any operation’s needs, ranging from a single 10-megawatt module powered by three Cat G3600 A4 or CG260 generators, to a more permanent power station with a series of G20CM34 generators, each producing 10.5 megawatts of electricity. Another option is a microgrid solution, which works in a similar way but also incorporates renewable energy sources such as solar panels, wind power and batteries.
Our first semi-modular power plant being commissioned in Wyoming is powered by six CG260 generators producing 24 megawatts of electricity.
