Hard-working Cat® engines are under the hoods of more than 1 million on-highway trucks across North America. They power applications ranging from medium- to heavy-duty vehicles.
And while Cat engines are built to last, they’ll eventually need a repair, rebuild or replacement. That’s why we support our on-highway truck engines with a singular remanufacturing program called Cat Reman. Cat Reman products aren't limited to on-highway truck engines — you’ll also find cooling systems, pivot shafts, exhaust systems and more.
What if your Cat engine is due for an overhaul? Cat Reman drop-in solution means you may be able to find a fully assembled and quality-tested engine for your specific equipment. See how it works in this video:
When a customer returns their used engine components — known as core — to their Cat dealer, the core goes through an intensive remanufacturing and salvage process at one of Caterpillar’s facilities. There, parts are disassembled, cleaned and inspected. Then, they’re remanufactured to Caterpillar performance specifications with all the latest engineering updates. This often includes new content. Ultimately, Cat Reman engines and components offer like new performance and, with core return, they’re available to customers for a fraction of the price of new.
Your Cat dealer can help you decide if you need repairs, a rebuild or a full replacement. Regardless, incorporating fully assembled, quality Cat Reman products can speed up the service and can even save you money1. The good news is that Cat Reman has an engine option for almost every on-highway application.
Step one is returning your core to your Cat dealer. They’ll inspect it and issue a core refund, which you can use to save on your purchase of a Cat Reman part or full engine.
Plus, every Cat Reman product is protected by a same-as-new, 12-month Caterpillar Limited Warranty2, which covers material defects, workmanship and resultant damage.
Some of the components you may be able to secure for an engine repair or rebuild include air compressors, cylinder packs, injectors, oil pumps, turbochargers … and the list doesn’t end there.
For medium-duty Cat Reman engines — C7, 3116, 3126, 3126B/3126E — you have the following options:
Fully assembled Cat Reman long blocks with the cylinder block and head, crankshaft, camshaft, pistons, connecting rods, timing gears, lifter, oil cooler and HEUI pump.
Fully assembled and complete Cat Reman engines with the air compressor, flywheel, main engine wiring harness, electronic control module and all engine sensors for a fast, efficient overhaul.
If you’re running heavy-duty applications — Cat C-10, C-12, C13 ACERT, C-15, C15 ACERT and 3406 engines — you have several options.
Cat Reman long blocks, which are ideal for second, third or fourth engine overhauls when your core is in good condition. They’re assembled with everything you need for a quick, quality repair. And they’re backed by a same-as-new, 12-Month Limited Warranty2.
Cat Reman long blocks with new content, which have new cylinder blocks, crankshafts and cylinder heads. This could be a good option if your core needs a reset. And you can receive some credit for rusted, corroded or damaged cores.
Complete Cat Reman engines, which are fully assembled for a fast, efficient overhaul. The electronic control module (ECM), engine wiring harness and sensor set and complete set of oil and fuel lines are included — and backed by a 24-month, unlimited-mileage warranty2.
Complete Cat Reman engines with new content, which come with new cylinder blocks, crankshafts and cylinder heads, so you can upgrade to a new model or repower your truck from another engine brand.
So how does all of this work? To start, work with your Cat dealer to select which repair option is right for you. Here are just a couple you could consider:
Option one: Cat Reman long blocks are disassembled, cleaned, inspected, salvaged and remanufactured to Caterpillar performance specifications with the latest engineering updates. Then they’re tested to ensure they deliver like new performance. Choose Cat Reman if your existing core is still in good condition. That way, you get the quality you want at a cost-effective price.
Option two: Cat Reman long blocks with new content give you the chance to repower your truck without starting from scratch. They contain 100% new cylinder blocks, crankshafts and cylinder heads. This gives you maximum life expectancy, enhanced overhaul potential and peace of mind. With this option, you don’t need to worry if your core is damaged as it gives full value for most cores, even rusted and corroded ones. It’s like resetting your engine and giving the heart of your truck a jump-start.
So, if it’s time to overhaul your on-highway truck engine, you may want to talk about Cat Reman products with your Cat dealer. They’ll help you spec a Cat Reman long block or engine.
