Servicing Cat® Ultra High Efficiency Filters

Estimated read time: 2 minutes

Investing in and maintaining your engine air filters keeps contaminants out of your engine. And when you buy Cat® ultra high efficiency (UHE) filters, they last longer than standard filters. Keep reading to learn more about UHE filters and how to properly service them.

And to get all the necessary safety procedures related to your filter servicing, review your Operation and Maintenance Manual (OMM). It’s also important to keep your personal protective equipment (PPE) on hand, too. Learn more about UHE filters by watching this video and reading the tips below:

Before servicing filters, move your machine to a flat, dry surface, lower implements to the ground, lock out the hydraulics and turn off the engine.

Using Cat UHE Filters

Cat UHE engine air filters differ from standard filters because of the synthetic media service that captures fine particles. This allows for higher airflow, making Cat UHE filters ideal for applications with fine particles. You may want to use Cat UHE filters if you have a dusty jobsite or if your equipment is exposed to a lot of exhaust soot.

Another benefit of Cat UHE filters is extended product life. You can cut down on filter replacements, and they don’t need to be changed at a certain hour interval. Depending on your equipment, you will either have a mechanical or an electronic indicator that tells you when it’s time to replace the filter. Here are the details:

of

  • Mechanical indicator: You’ll know it is time to replace your UHE filter when the mechanical indicator turns red.

  • Electronic indicator: A notification will show on the display when it’s time to change your filter.

Resetting Filter Indicators

Before changing your filter, make sure these indicators are not false alarms. It’s possible to get a false notification if your equipment’s load has been running high.

To make sure the filter does need to be changed, reset the mechanical indicator by pressing the end, then turn off your machine. If the mechanical indicator stays red when you restart your equipment, your filter needs to be changed.

The electronic indicator works similarly. If the engine air filter notification still appears when you restart your machine, change your filter.

During regular filter maintenance, never try to clean Cat filters. This risks contamination and engine damage. And rest assured that any buildup you see is important for optimal filter performance. That buildup helps capture even more dust and dirt.
