As the Cat® dealer covering northern and central Florida, where hurricanes and tropical storms are the norm, Ring Power is accustomed to responding to emergencies. So when five area hospitals called on Ring Power to deliver rental power and ancillary equipment to support temporary structures that were being set up to screen people for the COVID-19 virus, providing a comprehensive solution at a moment’s notice came naturally.
“Health care providers contacted us with a concept, and our rental professionals designed and delivered a turnkey solution utilizing Cat rental product,” says Steve Ferlita, vice president for used, rental, and GPP at Ring Power. “The customer comes to us with a broad concept of what they want to do, and then we immediately start asking the qualification questions, which leads to a focused approach.”
Ring Power’s dedicated team of rental professionals arrive on site to ensure that customer expectations and technical requirements are met. “Then with meticulous oversight, the installation of the rental equipment and the operation are seamlessly completed,” Ferlita says.
After receiving a call from Orlando Regional Medical Center on March 12, Ring Power provided a Cat XQ200 mobile generator along with a 250-gallon auxiliary fuel tank for two COVID-19 screening tents outside the hospital. Additionally, Ring Power provided temperature control, which included two 10-ton air conditioners, two five-ton air conditioners, plus power distribution.
Ring was also called upon to deliver an XQ2000 power module at a field hospital set up for COVID-19 patients in a hotel.
Based on the calls Ring Power has received during the pandemic, the installations run the gamut of stand-alone generators for small distribution to something more complex where the Cat dealer has been tasked with delivering the entire scope of the project.
“Ring Power is accustomed to operating under very high-stress conditions, where timing is critical—and which might include natural or man-made disasters.” Ferlita says. “Customers contact us asking, ‘How fast can you get here and install the rental equipment so we can make sure that we have the surge tents or the field hospitals ready to go?’”
Ring Power prides itself on having the right resources and equipment at a moment’s notice, Ferlita says.
“Often we can quote a project in the morning and safely install it by that afternoon, even if the call comes after hours,” he says.
“Ring Power is a vital piece of the overall effort to contain the COVID-19 virus,” Ferlita says, “and if we can support health care providers by supplying a temporary rental solution — and help save some lives in the process — then we’ve done our job.”
