Maximize Resiliency and Energy Savings With Energy Storage
Energy storage systems are a key component in a hybrid energy solution and guarantee short-term backup power. Caterpillar can provide on-site energy storage systems to help stabilize transient loads, supply and absorb alternating current (AC) power, and transfer energy from time-of-generation to time-of-use. Stored energy can also be used to participate in grid services markets to avoid costs or receive financial compensation.
Cat Compact Battery Energy Storage System (ESS)
Supplement traditional mobile power solutions with the Cat Compact ESS, a new mobile battery energy storage system reducing noise and generator set runtime. After storing surplus power from any combination of diesel, natural gas, renewable biogas, or hydrogen or blends of hydrogen, the durable Cat Compact ESS dispatches energy as needed. Designed for easy worksite deployment, the new mobile battery energy storage system can be fully recharged in as little as four hours for up to 20 hours usage.

Cat BDP for Ultimate System Efficiency
The Cat BDP module is responsible for reliable control for the Cat Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). Integrated controls provide complete management of the charge and discharge of the ESS. The BDP1000 is a high performance inverter designed with the flexibility to be used in grid connected and off-grid applications and is well suited for use in parallel with generators as well as renewable and hydroelectric power.
The BDP stabilizes voltage sags/surges, and under/over voltage / frequency conditions and stabilizes a microgrid against transient events caused by step loads and fluctuating renewable power sources. When used with a generator set, the BDP1000 will provide power to decrease the transient voltage and frequency dips resulting from the application of large loads.
Cat Energy Time Shift (ETS), Energy Capacity Expansion (ECE), and Power Grid Stabilization (PGS) Modules
The container modules are a scalable and rapidly deployable energy storage system integrating renewable energy sources. The system stores energy from the overproduction of the renewable energy source for use when it is not available. A Cat BESS system provides temporary backup power to facilities in the event of a power outage. The PGS model is available in a heavy-duty mobile version. The ETS, ECE, and PGS modules also protect against many typical power problems, including grid outage, voltage sags/surges, and under/over frequency conditions.

Microgrid Master Controller-Small (MMC-S)
- Sold as a prime product for use with other Cat microgrid assets sold separately, as well as included as a component of PGS1260 HD in rental, nonrental, and oil and gas applications.
- Designed for small industrial/commercial applications.
- Has the ability to monitor and control up to 32 assets in the power.
Microgrid Master Controller-Medium (MMC-M)
- Designed for medium-to-large industrial/commercial installations
- Has the ability to monitor and control up to 300 assets in the power infrastructure control.
- Designed to optimize hybrid system performance, the MMC-M can help lower total cost of operation, reduce fuel consumption, improve power quality/outage resilience, and reduce peak power demands.

BIOGAS
Cat diesel generators can run on renewable biofuels and have accommodated the use of biodiesel and hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) for over a decade. A more popular choice among customers seeking to reduce the impact of their operations on the environment in the near term, biofuels are produced from renewable resources such as vegetable oils, including soybean oil, canola oil, and palm oil, as well as used cooking oils and animal fats.
NATURAL GAS
Natural gas is one of the cleanest burning fuels, helping you meet strict emission and environmental regulations. Generate prime or standby power with the benefits of natural gas, a lower emission producing alternative to diesel fuel. Prepare for changing fuel requirements with a wide range of available propane and dual-fuel options. With options to power small to large applications, natural gas generators enable power production during peak usage for energy savings and participation in demand-response programs, where available.
HYDROGEN
Renewable hydrogen and blends of hydrogen and natural gas are among several alternative fuels to help achieve sustainability goals. Cat generator sets with hydrogen blending capabilities are safe, provide minimal impact on operations, deliver high efficiency, and lower greenhouse gas emissions. Cat generator sets across the entire G3500 engine platform may now be configured to enable operation on natural gas blended with up to 25% hydrogen for 50 or 60 Hz continuous, prime, and load management applications.
