SOLAR POWER KEEPS COSTS DOWN AT POULTRY FARM

With its energy bill representing a whopping 50 percent of its total operating costs, Buck Creek Farm needed a power source that could offset sharp increases in the price of utility power. With the installation of a Cat® solar power system, a combination of tax and utility credits significantly reduces the farm’s energy costs each year.

Solar power system delivers energy savings to hawthorne cat

At its headquarters building in Rancho Bernardo, California, Caterpillar dealer Hawthorne Cat commissioned a hybrid energy solution featuring 1,348 Cat PVC solar modules and a data acquisition system that monitors solar energy production. The system is expected to reduce Hawthorne’s electrical bill by more than $50,000 annually, while also insulating the dealer from future rate increases.

W.R. grace depends on cogeneration to offset energy costs

The W.R. Grace & Co. Curtis Bay facility runs 24/7, producing catalysts and silicas for a variety of applications. When aging infrastructure caused power to become unreliable at the plant, the company turned to its Cat dealer to commission a combined heat and power (CHP) system powered by two Cat generator sets to supply reliable power and lower energy costs.
