At the heart of every great machine is a great engine — one that powers through day after day, month after month and year after year. The Caterpillar MINExpo 2021 display featured three of these reliable engines, all put to the test through a wide range of everyday and extreme conditions.
The C175 is one of our strongest and most reliable engines, with more than 22 million hours of operation in a wide variety of applications all over the world. From large mining trucks to generators to marine applications, the C175’s proven performance, optimized fuel usage and superior controllability have made it a powerful, cost-effective choice.
We've made a number of improvements to the 3516 over the years, and we continue to find new ways to extend life and reduce costs. Customers routinely report these engines outliving their projected service lives, often by thousands of hours.
The C175 engine at MINExpo featured a Cat Dynamic Gas Blending™ (DGB) conversion kit, which replaces use of diesel fluid with liquefied natural gas (LNG) whenever possible. This technology has over 10 million operating hours in a wide variety of industries all over the world and is proven to dramatically reduce emissions and lower fuel costs — with zero impact on downtime or machine performance.
The C32B is all new from the block up, with a number of design improvements focused on increasing durability. The new block is more robust, with a stronger crankshaft and larger main and rod journals. A new connecting rod features a larger big end and an optimized small end, as well as new pistons and cylinder heads.
