Setting the Industry Benchmark for Productivity and Reliability for 25 Years
Built-In Intelligence
In high-performance longwall mining, the conveyor system must adjust quickly to carry huge loads and respond to load changes. Cat CST drive systems provide intelligent features like no-load motor startup, AFC soft start and synchronized heavy-load startup to allow accurate load-sharing between up to three drive motors with excellent, extremely fast overload protection.
For conveyors 400m or longer, the soft-start and synchronized heavy-load startup provided by Cat CST drive systems are critical for the life of all drivetrain components. Accurate load sharing allows for full utilization of the installed power of the face conveyor.
Cat CST drives have proven their productivity and reliability in challenging mining conditions all over the world. They are able to start the conveyor even when it's heavily loaded, and carry those heavy loads quickly and efficiently. They also protect the conveyor from damage caused by rock jams and allow for better control of conveyor speed.
Smooth operation leads to reduced wear on the drives, chains, sprockets, flight bars, line pans and drive ends. That means a longer life and reduced maintenance.
Cat CST drives have a number of production-increasing features — integrated no-load motor startup, soft start, heavy-load startup, accurate load-sharing between drives, and excellent, rapid overload protection in case of hard jamming of the chain. These features help significantly reduce downtime and increase productivity.
Back in 1994, Caterpillar produced its very first Cat Controlled Start Transmission (CST) gearbox – “Serial No. 1.” During its 20-year service life, it has operated at two top-producing mines in the United States, mining a total of 60 million tons of coal.
Today Cat CST drives continue to set the industry standard for quality, durability and cutting-edge conveyor drive technology.
In 2017, a Russian mine surpassed the national monthly coal production record, moving 1,407 tonnes of raw coal from a single face. A Cat CST65 drive was critical to the success of this highly productive mine.
