Both the Cat® G3516J and G3516 TA engines are built on the proven G3500 series platform, known for reliable, durable performance in gas compression applications for decades. Both are capable of burning a wide spectrum of gaseous fuels. And both are ideal for rental fleets due to ease of compressor match and mobility. So why would you choose one over the other?
It likely comes down to your emission-reduction goals. The G3516J is capable of NOx emissions as low as 0.5 g/bhp-hr, while the G3516 TA — when paired with a customer-supplied three-way catalyst — drops NOx levels to as little as 0.15 g/bhp-hr. If you’re in a region with more stringent emission requirements, or if you’re trying to bring more power on site without exceeding annual NOx limits, you may want to consider the TA model. Here’s a quick look at the similarities and differences between the two engines.
