CAT Dealers help power 500-bed quarantine facility at Cashman Field for the Las Vegas homeless

As COVID-19 affects people all over the United States, a new facility was built by the city of Las Vegas called the Isolation and Quarantine (ISO-Q) Complex. It is designed to serve the Las Vegas Valley’s sick and symptomatic homeless with 500 beds available. This is the first of its kind nationwide, which allows homeless individuals the ability to self-isolate and quarantine.

Cashman Equipment, a Cat dealer in Southern Las Vegas, as well as two of their customers, Vision Building Systems and Tie Wire Electric, helped power the project by providing the ISO-Q Complex for the homeless at Cashman Field. To power the buildings, they rented two Cat XQ800 generators, one XQ500 generator, and one XQ425 paralleling generator from Cashman Power, plus fuel tanks and more than 5,500’ feet of cable for the ISO-Q complex.

CAT Dealer Donates Rental Power to Field Hospital

The COVID-19 pandemic hit Northern Italy especially hard these past few months. Italy’s mountain infantry, the Alpini, created this 144-bed field hospital in just seven days in the Bergamo Province.

CGT, a Caterpillar dealer since 1934, supported the build by providing free rental power for their whole field hospital. They donated three XQE250 generator sets and two XQP275 generator sets as well as the required cable and ancillary equipment needed to go along with it. These mobile Cat generator sets will provide the field hospital backup power if grid power is lost.

Cat Engines Customer Vermeer Focuses on Making a Postive Impact During COVID-19 Crisis

The relationship between Caterpillar and Vermeer Manufacturing, in Pella, Iowa, began more than 20 years ago and remains strong today. For Jason Andringa and his colleagues at Vermeer Corporation, a Cat Engines customer, the work hasn’t stopped.

Instead, the company’s team members are working together with RP America, a 3D printing company, to make face shields for healthcare workers. Using cutting-edge 3D printing technology, Vermeer successfully worked with hospital officials to determine the best design of a visor piece for use on the face shield. The company then worked alongside local 3D printer owners to spur even more production of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Caterpillar Employee creates N95 alternative and reusable mask with disposable filters

Joshua Malavolti, a Caterpillar® employee in the Global Information Services division, created ‘The Malamask,’ a reusable mask with disposable filters during the pandemic. His idea for a mask was developed when his wife, who is in the healthcare field, shared the urgent need and shortage of proper protective masks.

Malavolti’s focus was on creating an easily manufactured and reusable mask from common products like cotton rounds, while still following safety guidelines of the N-95 masks. After a few prototypes, Malavolti finished a compliant and reusable design. Partnering with River City Labs, he has already distributed 200 + masks to those who need it most.
